Ingredients
- 1 bag (82 g) Orville Redenbacher Buttery Microwavable Popcorn
- 1 cup (200 g) sugar
- 1/4 cup (60 mL) maple syrup
- 1/4 cup (60 mL) corn syrup
- 1/4 cup (60 g) unsalted butter
- 1 tbsp (15 mL) lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp (2.5 g) salt
- 1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp (2.5 g) baking soda
- 1/2 cup (64 g) red Maple Leaf candy sprinkles
- 1/2 cup (118 mL) water
Directions
-
Step one
Prepare popcorn according to package instructions. Transfer to large bowl; set aside.
-
Step two
Combine sugar, maple syrup, corn syrup, butter, lemon juice, water and salt in heavy-bottom saucepan set over medium heat; bring to boil, stirring to combine.
-
Step three
Boil for 8 to 10 minutes or until caramel reaches 245 °F/118 °C on candy thermometer, or firm ball stage (when a drop of caramel added to a small dish of cold water forms a pliable ball of caramel). Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla and baking soda. Working quickly, pour over popcorn, tossing evenly to coat. Let cool slightly. Toss in sprinkles.
-
Step four
Using buttered or wet hands, shape into twelve 2-inch (5 cm) balls. Place on parchment paper–lined tray. Insert red-and-white striped paper straw or lollipop stick into centre of each ball. Let cool completely.
Tips
- For homemade gifts, wrap each popcorn pop in cellophane and tie with red ribbon.
- For a nutty addition, add toasted pecans, cashews or peanuts.
